WINCHESTER, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say an inmate who escaped from an eastern Indiana jail while helping clean the lobby has been captured in a nearby Ohio county.

The Randolph County Sheriff's Department says 26-year-old Robert Dean Lewis was arrested Wednesday afternoon by Darke County and Greenville, Ohio, officers. The (Muncie) Star Press reports  officers used a stun gun on Lewis as he tried to flee.

Darke County is just across the state line from Randolph County. Authorities say Lewis escaped about 3:30 a.m. Monday when a deputy went into a public bathroom to gather trash.

Lewis was jailed on charges he stole $80,000 in cash and checks from a businessman's home.

He was being held in the Darke County jail pending extradition to Randolph County.
