Governor Signs Bill Delaying Penalties From New Indiana Exam

Indiana lawmakers amended a bill regulating children’s access to social media, removing a proposed overnight curfew for teens while keeping age limits and parental permission requirements.

Authored by Sen. Liz Brown (R-Fort Wayne), the legislation effectively bans gender marker changes on birth certificates and defines “gender” as a synonym for “sex,” excluding a person’s “subjective experience" and restricts facilities based on them.

Indiana schools would need to notify parents if their child was a victim of bullying, or expressing suicidal thoughts, under a bill one House lawmaker plans to reintroduce during the legislative session.
