Indiana Joins 10 States In Opposing Tougher EPA Ozone Limits

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana has joined 10 other states in opposing the federal government's proposed more protective standards for smog-forming pollution linked to asthma and respiratory illnesses.

Gov. Mike Pence says he's joined 10 other governors in sending a letter to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency opposing its proposed tougher ozone standards.

All but one of Indiana's 92 counties meet the EPA's current ozone standards. But Pence says the proposed new standards would harm Indiana "just as our economy appears to be turning a corner."

Jodi Perras is the Indiana representative of the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign. She says the Pence administration's continued opposition to stronger clean air protections ignores the fact that "clean air standards are established to protect our health and the health of our children."
