Indiana National Guard To Help Form New Cyber Protection Team

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A cyber protection team of soldiers from Army National Guard units in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan will be among the first of three such teams beginning work this fall to support the military's cyber defense efforts.

Ohio's interim adjutant general said Wednesday that the team will consist of 39 soldiers. Maj. Gen. Mark Bartman says the three states have many soldiers who work as civilians in information technology and academic fields. Bartman says they can offer valuable expertise in cyber defense techniques.

Bartman says the Ohio-Indiana-Michigan team's winning proposal was one of 32 proposals representing 45 states

The two other teams starting this fall are in Georgia and California.

The National Guard will establish four more teams around the country in fiscal year 2017 and three more the next year.
