INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Officials are trying to stir up interest from airlines in providing direct flights between Indianapolis International Airport and London.

The Indianapolis Airport Authority says about 360 people travel daily overseas from the city to Europe, Asia and Africa. But they must now catch connecting flights in Chicago or East Coast cities.

Indianapolis airport spokeswoman Stephanie McFarland says several Indiana businesses could benefit from the convenience of direct London flights. McFarland tells The Indianapolis Star that airport officials will be talking with British Airways, other airlines and Indiana businesses such as Eli Lilly and Co. and Cummins Inc. about the potential demand.

The only international flights currently departing from Indianapolis are to Toronto; Cancun, Mexico; and the Dominican Republic.
