Indianapolis Police: Girl Dies After Motorist Backs Over Her

Police say a 2-year-old girl has died after a motorist accidentally backed a vehicle over her in Indianapolis.

The girl was struck Monday outside a home on the city's east side. The driver, identified by police as a family friend, was cooperating with investigators.

Police say the child had just returned home from a grocery store with her mother and the family friend when she was struck. Police Capt. Karen Arnett called it a "tragic situation."

The child's name wasn't immediately released. The death is under investigation.
