Indianapolis Police Officers Charged in Beating

Two Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers face felony battery charges for allegedly beating a man at a bar on the city's southside.

Officers Michael Reiger and John "Nick" Serban are accused of starting an altercation at Mikie's Pub on Aug. 7 and beating a 29-year-old man.

Documents described the man as drunk and belligerent when the off-duty officers confronted him. One officer showed his badge, which the man then flung across the room before the beating began. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office says officers are alleged to have removed the victim, who became unconscious, from the bar.

A police spokesman says Reiger and Serban were arrested without incident Wednesday and suspended without pay pending termination.
