Indy Schools To Review Notification Policy After Brawl

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Public School officials are reviewing their communication policy after parents complained of not getting information about a brawl last week at Arsenal Technical High School.

The Indianapolis Star reports that 13 students were charged with disorderly conduct after a lunchroom spat Thursday spilled into the courtyard and devolved into what some students called a "riot."

Eight students were injured. Three were transported to hospitals. Hand and ankle injuries, a panic attack and exposure to pepper spray were reported.

The campus was locked down as officials tried to calm the situation and get students home safely. But parents complained they were getting messages from inside the school and not from district officials.

District spokeswoman Carrie Cline Black acknowledges communication was not swift but says the first priority was student safety.
