Indy Trick-Or-Treaters Will Have To Wait Until Friday

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard took to Twitter this afternoon to let area trick-or-treaters know that they will have to wait until Friday to go door to door in search of Halloween treats.

With the threat of severe weather in Central Indiana Thursday evening, the Department of Public Safety  moved outdoor trick-or-treat hours to Friday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m.

DPS says the indoor trick-or-treat activities previously scheduled at all Indianapolis Fire Department stations and IMPD’s Southwest District location will proceed as scheduled on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. IMPD’s Southeast District location will welcome trick-or-treaters Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m., as will the Southwest District location.

“With the safety of the public in mind, our best option is to move outdoor trick-or-treat hours to Friday night. Halloween is a popular annual event for families in our community and we need to take the necessary steps to provide a safe opportunity for their fun,” said Director of Public Safety Troy Riggs. “The National Weather Service has indicated an increasing level of certainty and confidence in the potential for severe weather in the Indianapolis area tomorrow night, and that is at the root of our decision.”

The announcement from DPS also said Operation Halloween, a mandatory meeting for Marion County sex offenders, is also being rescheduled from Thursday to Friday, and will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.

IMPD plans to step up enforcement Thursday night, Friday night and through the weekend. Parents are reminded to accompany their children at all times during Halloween activities.

Trick-or treaters are reminded to follow safety tips as they head out for Halloween this year. For more information and recommended safety tips. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention offers tips on its website at www.cdc.gov/family/halloween
