IndyHumane Hopes Indiana Follows New Yorks Efforts And Bans Declawing Cats.

The Humane Society of Indianapolis, now IndyHumane, hopes Indiana follows New York’s efforts and bans pet owners from declawing cats.

New York just became the first state to outlaw the practice.

“We applaud the efforts of New York’s state legislature on the passage of S.5532B/A.1303 into state law.

Declawing is simply an outdated and unnecessary practice, says Indy Humane staff veterinarian Jessica Snyder.

Snyder says there is no benefit to the cat to have declawing done.

“It’s really only a benefit to people’s furniture. I think that’s another reason why this should be an education process and what veterinarians should be talking to people over the long term.”

Snyder is also the Indiana Director for the Paw Project, https://pawproject.org/about-us/about-the-paw-project/  which is a national non-profit working to educate the public about effects of cat declawing and trying to end the practice of declaw surgery.
