Leaders at an Islamic school in Indianapolis say they’ve received an overwhelming amount of support after someone sent a hateful letter to the school last week.

The MTI School of Knowledge increased security because of the threat.

The letter says President-elect Donald Trump will “do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews.” The letter didn’t mention the school specifically and other Islamic organizations throughout the country received similar notes.

MTI School of Knowledge Spokesperson Henry Hane says the school reported the threat to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and the FBI. And he’s been surprised by the community’s response over the past week.

“Sent us letters, sent us flowers, called us, came,” Hanes says. “Saying ‘Understand that we are here, we’re all in this together. So don’t worry.’”

Indiana is one of five states that doesn’t have a hate crimes law.

The number of hate crimes against Muslims is going up nationally. According to FBI data, they increased 67 percent from 2014 to 2015.
