Indiana UniversityBLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana University trustees are to consider whether the school's marching band should get a new $10 million facility.
The Bloomington Herald-Times reports that the proposed 30,000-square-foot building would be located across the street from the university's basketball arena and football stadium. The board is to vote Friday. A committee approved the measure Thursday.
The Marching Hundred Band currently occupies a former church. IU Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities Tom Morrison says the building wasn't meant to house the band, and they're in need of a new facility.
The proposed building includes a 6,000-square-foot rehearsal space and two 2,600-sqaure-foot rehearsal rooms. It would also house instrument and uniform storage as well as repair space.
The facility will be funded by gifts through the IU Foundation.
