Like many Indianapolis musicians, Charlie Ballantine relies on nightly gigs, festivals, and weekly teaching positions. Those opportunities are now closed. And yet there's a bright side, he and wife, jazz musician Amanda Gardier, just welcomed the birth of a child.

Our Arts and Culture Desk aired an interview with his wife this morning, and this evening WFYI’s Jill Ditmire speaks with Ballantine about the ups and downs of life in this time — including and upcoming new album based on the novels of Indianapolis author Kurt Vonnegut.

Ballantine starts the interview talking about that album, he joined the conversation by phone.
