Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard was injured Saturday at the start of the Grand Prix of Indianapolis when debris from a crash hit him in the arm.
Ballard was the honorary starter for the race and was waving the green flag along pit road when the incident occured. Polesitter Sebastian Saavedra's car stalled at the start and was then hit from behind by two trailing cars. The impact sent debris across the frontstretch of the racetrack and into pit lane.
According to media reports, the Ballard was able to walk away from the scene and was taken to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's infield care center.
After he was treated, Ballard took to social media to let everyone know he was ok.
Thanks everyone for well wishes & the great #IUHealth & @IMS staff for checking me out. Watching the rest of the race from home.
