Hundreds Attend Crown Hill's 150th Memorial Day Ceremony

Crown Hill National Cemetery held its 150th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony Monday. Despite the high temperatures, an estimated 400 people attended.

Nathan Perry attended this event for the first time and said he was impressed and plans to return next year.

“It was all very meaningful. Everything was put in good perspective. It was a good turnout, people here, to recognize the seriousness of the event -- and important speakers that were here. I was impressed with all of those facts they put together,” Perry said.

Speakers included Gov. Eric Holcomb and Seema Verma, administrator of the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. Verma said the debt we owe veterans can never fully be repaid.

"And so, on this Memorial Day let us renew our promise to never forget the fallen and recognize our liberties came at a great price,” she said.

She also spoke on behalf of President Donnald Trump.

“President Trump is very much aware of how important and meaningful this event is for Hoosiers, and he wants me to convey his heartfelt respect to all of you,” Verma said. 

The Indiana Army National Guard’s 38th Division and the Lawrence Central High School choir presented music, including the "Battle Hymn of the Republic."
