The Southeast Neighborhood Development Corporation announced the completion of The Bridgeman, a new affordable housing project on the near south east side.
The four rental units are available to people who make less than 50% of the area's median income.
“So we're serving a very critical need in terms of the rental shortage of rental units, and then the building itself is just gorgeous in design,” said Kelli Mirgeaux, president of the Southeast Neighborhood Development Corporation.
Each of the four units are around 1100 square feet with two bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms.
The project was named after Anthony Bridgeman, a housing advocate who worked with Mirgeaux on the project but died before it was completed.
Mirgeaux said that SEND built nine affordable single family homes in 2024, and repaired over 15 homes across the city.
“A big part of our mission is to create, maintain and sustain affordable housing in southeast Indy,” she said.
The Bridgeman project was paid for with American Rescue Plan Act dollars allocated through the city. One of the buildings has already been rented, and the other three units are available now.
