INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — House Minority Leader Scott Pelath says he opposes a proposal that would allow Gov. Mike Pence to run both for re-election and the White House in 2016.

Pelath said during a Monday briefing on House Democrats' legislative agenda that Pence needs "to make a choice" and run for one office or the other.

Pence has said he won't announce if he'll run for president until the 2015 legislative session ends in late April.

Pelath says the governor "can't focus on Indiana and our problems here" if he runs for president because he would be distracted by the presidential nomination process.

State Sen. Mike Delph wants to expand Indiana's election law to allow a sitting governor or state lawmaker to simultaneously seek both re-election and election to any federal office.
