Pence Gets Obama's Ear at Evansville Airport

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Gov. Mike Pence had a brief meeting with President Barack Obama after the president arrived in Evansville for his first Indiana event in three years.

Pence spoke with Obama for about five minutes Friday afternoon on the tarmac at Evansville Municipal Airport.

Pence had hoped to meet with Obama to discuss the governor's plan for expanding Medicaid using Indiana's state-run alternative that would rely on optional payments by consumers and a hybrid health savings account.

Pence's proposal is being reviewed by Obama's Department of Health and Human Services.

After meeting Pence, Obama joined his motorcade for a trip to a steel processor near Princeton.

About 1,000 people gathered outside Evansville North High School to see Obama's motorcade, some holding "Welcome Mr. President!" signs and others with signs reading "Thumbs Down."
