Public Comment Ending On Commission's Regulatory Power

People have until Monday to comment on whether ORSANCO — the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission — should give up regulatory power. 

Since 1948, the commission has worked to control pollution from eight states that surround the river, including Indiana.

ORSANCO has proposed getting rid of its pollution control standards, leaving the care of the Ohio River largely to the states. The organization would continue its other programs.

Some of ORSANCO’s pollution standards are more strict than the Environmental Protection Agency’s or cover issues the agency doesn’t.
