State Lawmaker Files Bills Aimed At Attorney General's Sexual Misconduct

A Democratic state lawmaker has filed a series of bills aimed at Attorney General Curtis Hill, who’s accused of inappropriately groping her and three other women.

Rep. Mara Candelaria Reardon (D-Munster) and three legislative staffers say Hill groped them at a post-session party last year. A special prosecutor declined to bring criminal charges.

Reardon’s slate of four bills would address the incident. One establishes a new crime, lewd touching. Another would create an oversight commission that investigates state officials like the attorney general and could remove them from office.

The Munster Democrat says her legislation aims to close loopholes in a system she believes should better protect men and women from sexual harassment in the workplace.

Despite earlier calls from Gov. Eric Holcomb and others for Hill to step down, Republican legislative leaders have said they won’t take any actions this session to remove the Attorney General from office.
