State Supreme Court Affirms Right-to-Work Law

State Supreme Court Affirms Right-to-Work Law

The Indiana Supreme Court Wednesday affirmed its view that the state’s controversial Right to Work law is constitutional.  The controversial measure bans union contracts that require non-members to pay fees for representation.

Two unions - the United Steelworkers and the International Operating Engineers - filed lawsuits challenging the law after the General Assembly passed it in 2012.  The state Supreme Court ruled on the Operating Engineers suit last month, upholding Right to Work as constitutional.

Its order Tuesday sent the Steelworkers case back to its original court level, telling the judge to dismiss the case and ending the appeal.
