Terre Haute Had 2nd-Biggest Construction Job Gains

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — A new analysis says the Terre Haute area had the nation's second-highest percentage gain in construction jobs during the past year.

The report from the Associated General Contractors of America was based on its analysis of federal employment data. The Washington, D.C.-based trade association's report finds that construction jobs in western Indiana's Terre Haute area saw a 24 percent increase between October 2013 and October 2014.

That ranks it second among the largest percentage gains in all Metropolitan Statistical Areas.

The Tribune-Star reports (http://bit.ly/1wSTlJt ) those jobs are categorized as construction, mining and logging.

Indiana Department of Workforce Development spokesman Joe Frank says construction jobs statewide were down because of the severe 2013/2014 winter. He says several areas are "trying to catch up with projects that had been put on hold."
