The National Trust for Historic Preservation holds its national convention in Indianapolis at the end of the month. Indiana Landmarks is hosting the event that will bring about 2000 visitors to downtown Indianapolis from October 30 through November 2.
Indiana Landmarks President Marsh Davis says the number attending might not be as large as other conferences but these members won't be spending their time in hotel or convention rooms. They will be looking for and experiencing all things local.
“We are going to be examined by people who are in tuned to the physicality of a place and how it functions as a community,” Davis said.
Education and field sessions will take members across Central Indiana discussing unusual topics like using microbreweries to save communities. And Davis says it will bring fresh sets of eyes and brains together for a day-long focus on Indianapolis’ old city hall.
“We hope to have a lot of participation by people who know how to finance the adaptive use and rehabilitation of historic properties not just how do you redesign it,” Davis said.
Non members can take part too. Activities from a Halloween candlelight tour of the Old Northside to an evening speakeasy at the Columbia Club are on the schedule. Learn more at the National Trust website.
