Winter Storm Warning Issued For Indiana

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning effective from 1 a.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday.

The NWS predicts 8 to 12 inches of snow will fall from late Saturday night to late Sunday night. Winds will also be a problem, with gusts from 35 to 40 mph possible Sunday.

In addition to blowing and drifting snow, the high winds will combine with extremely cold temperatures to drive the wind chill down to 35 below zero on Sunday and 40 below zero on Monday into early Tuesday.

The drifting snow and bitter cold will make traveling dangerous, and officials are encouraging people to stay home and off the roads.

“Only travel in an emergency,” the NWS advised in a statement. “If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
