A special prosecutor has been named in the investigation of the police shooting of Dreasjon Reed last month.

Attorneys representing the family of Dreasjon "Sean" Reed, a black man killed by Indianapolis police last month, spoke out Wednesday and said they are asking the federal government to investigate his death.

An IMPD officer heard making an insensitive comment at the scene of a fatal police shooting has been suspended and reassigned.

IMPD says a crowd at 62nd Street and Michigan Road began to close in on officers as they were arresting a man. The officers used pepper balls to disperse the crowd.

Local civil rights groups are responding to two police shootings in under eight hours in Indianapolis and demanding a fair investigation. City leaders say they agree.
