U.S. Rep. Andre Carson, D-Indiana, joined Democrats in Washington as they staged a sit-in to protest to push for movement on gun control.

Once the House was gaveled into session, Democrats shouted down the chair. Members remained in the well of the chamber, some literally sitting on the House floor.

Rep. Ed DeLaney said Tuesday that he wants background checks for all gun purchases, more resources for probation officers and a state ban on assault weapons.

Just over a week after the deadly nightclub rampage in Orlando, the Senate has been moved to action on guns. But there's little reason for optimism as previous versions of the amendments have failed.
