Indianapolis mayoral candidates Democratic incumbent Joe Hogsett, Republican State Sen. Jim Merritt and Libertarian Douglas McNaughton participated in the races final debate Monday night.

The first closure will be of I-65 northbound between its interchanges with Interstate 465 and Interstate 865 starting 9 p.m. June 14 until July 1. Closure of the southbound lanes is scheduled from July 12 until July 29.

In the new model, counties in the region would contribute a small fraction of their future income tax growth to a regional fund, which would be distributed to each county based on how much its roads are used.

The Federal Highway Administration announced the Indiana funding Tuesday as part of more than $705.7 million in funding to help 34 states and three territories.

Initial work on the highway's final 26 miles to Interstate 465 in Indianapolis is planned through Martinsville outside the current Indiana 37 lanes.

The funding is a key part of Mayor Joe Hogsett's 2019 city budget and it could finance a variety of projects - streets, bridges, traffic signals, curbs and sidewalk improvements.
