Vice President Mike Pence was in Indianapolis Friday at a discussion on America First Policies event.

Before his speech, he took a moment to recognize those killed in a mass shooting at a school in Texas. Pence shared message to victims and their families in Santa Fe, Texas: “your grief is our grief.”

He repeated a response President Donald Trump had to the mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida in February, saying no teacher or child should be in danger in an American school.

“But he added quickly, it is not enough to simply take action to make us feel like we’re making a difference, we must actually make that difference,” Pence says.

He also highlighted Indiana law, which gives school districts the ability to arm teachers. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick says only one school district has approved that.

He pointed to Indiana’s 3.2 percent unemployment rate and new business investments like Infosys to highlight Indiana as a tax law success story.

“Jobs are coming back. Confidence is back. And as I stand before you today, I’m proud to say America is back! And we’re just getting started!” Pence says.

Pence was a guest speaker following a panel on on the Trump Administration’s tax law impact on Indiana, which included U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.), Job Creators Network CEO Alfredo Ortiz, and Langham Logistics CEO Cathy Langham.

Young says the biggest impact is on small businesses and new investment.

“We’re seeing the seedlings of new businesses, new opportunities crop up,” Young says.

This was the former governor's third return to Indiana in the last month.
