Carmel Girls Go For 29th Consecutive State Championship

When the CHS Greyhound girls dive into the pool for the IHSAA swimming and diving championships Saturday at the Natatorium at IUPUI they’ll be poised to match a significant record.

Taking the title will give the team 29 consecutive high school state championship wins in a row, tying a streak set by a Hawaiian boys team almost 30 years ago.

Head Coach Christopher Plumb has been at the helm since 2006 and says a huge part of the success is their “For the Team” mentality.

"You know these girls they don't want to let their teammates down, they don't want to let the girls that came before them down," said Plumb. "We understand that it's individuals who score points, but it’s the team that matters."

That teamwork is clearly exhibited in the strength of their relays. Last year Carmel girls set national records in all three relay races and aims to top that this year.

The team is already looking ahead. They have at least three swimmers who will compete in nationals and one who could be Carmel’s first Olympian.
