Indianapolis Libraries Help Serve Hoosier Military Members

Indianapolis libraries are helping in an effort to aid local service men and women. Starting Friday, people can simply drop off household, personal and self-sufficiency items to be donated to veterans’ hospitals and shelters before Veterans Day.

“These could be cleaning supplies, toiletries, clothing,” says Jon Barnes, Indianapolis Public Library communication specialist.

All Indianapolis libraries will serve as collection sites through November 8.  This is the second year for the "Movers for Military" project headed by Volunteers of America and Two Men and a Truck. Last year more than 5,000 items were collected.

There are an estimated 15 homeless veterans per 10,000 people in Indiana, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
