Sports Medicine Complex Proposed At Indianapolis Airport

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A proposal is calling for a $500 million sports medical complex specializing in head trauma and concussion treatment to go on unused land at Indianapolis International Airport.

The plan was announced Tuesday. Indianapolis Airport Authority executive director Mario Rodriguez said the development would be privately financed and no subsidies are being sought. The Indianapolis Airport Authority's board is scheduled to vote on the plan Friday.

The developer, the Athlete's Business Network, said 3,000 people would be employed at the development. Plans call for a sports-centered medical complex, hotels and a stadium. The Indianapolis Star reports the developer doesn't yet have financing.

The Indianapolis Business Journal reports that the proposal and an unannounced project were chosen from among proposals submitted to the Airport Authority. A proposal for a casino wasn't picked.
