Advocates said they’re concerned about how the results of the presidential election could impact Medicaid programs in the state. One advocate says people should pay attention to national changes, but shouldn’t panic.

Medicaid members and providers continue to encounter problems with the implementation of the state’s new long-term care program for people over 60. One lawmaker said the dedicated support line isn’t able to provide basic information.

Thousands of Hoosiers are stuck on a waitlist for home- and community-based services through Medicaid — often with no information about when they might get to the front of the line. The Family and Social Services Administration says it’s added new information to its dashboard that could help people understand where they are on the list.

A committee tasked with making legislative recommendations on Medicaid once again submitted a final report with no recommendations. This means the committee has not produced any recommendations since it began in 2023.

The report is an update on a version from Indiana University’s Fairbanks School of Public Health – released in – as legislators began looking into Indiana’s health care costs. Both reports compile a range of publicly available data on factors that may affect health spending and costs.

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration implemented a waitlist for certain Medicaid services more than six months ago — and advocates said it’s created a significant barrier to care for medically complex Hoosiers. There are more than 13,000 Hoosiers still waiting for home- and community-based services through Medicaid between two waivers.

Some experts say a second Trump term could mean big cuts to the public health insurance program for low-income individuals.

The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration announced it will almost double the number of people it processes off of waitlists for home- and community-based services. But that means a majority of people waiting for slots will still have to wait for months.

It’s the first time in at least a decade that incumbents aren’t running for the District 39 and District 24 state house seats. Those seats cover parts of Hamilton County — an up and coming political battleground area.

The Family and Social Services Administration said the launch of the new long-term care program for Medicaid members over 60 is going well. But several Pathways for Aging program providers are raising concerns about aspects of the implementation.
