WFYI’s Human Resources Generalist serves as a versatile, hands-on HR professional who supports WFYI’s full employee lifecycle acting as a trusted resource for employees and leaders alike. This position partners across the organization to ensure WFYI’s HR practices remain compliant, consistent, people-focused, and aligned with organizational needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
WFYI’s HR team members, including WFYI’s HR Generalists, share essential functions and responsibilities based on available staffing, workload, expertise, and organizational needs.

Talent:
- Support WFYI's employee lifecycle phases providing step by step manager and employee guidance throughout the process, including identifying staffing needs, developing or updating job descriptions, requisitioning a position, recruiting (including job fairs& internship), final selection and offers, onboarding, orientation, post hire review, learning and development and performance management and offboarding
Employee Relations & Culture:
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and engaged workplace culture
- Support employee relations, employee engagement and employee conflict resolution processes
- Partners as a trusted advisor to employees and managers on workplace concerns
Payroll & Benefits:
- Support WFYI’s payroll processing and benefits administration, including leave administration such as FMLA and disability
HR Operations:
- Provide timely and accurate guidance, support, and training to managers and employees regarding all thing HR, including HR policy and procedure interpretation and implementation, payroll processing and benefits administration
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR data in WFYI’s HRIS systems
- Utilize Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) to report key performance indicators
- Participate in cross-functional departmental initiatives and serve as a flexible resource during periods of growth or change
- Work with external HR related vendors and brokers as needed
Compliance:
- Collect, prepare and submit employee information to comply with specific government and grant-related reporting requirements (eg, EEOC, HIPAA, OSHA, EPA, ADA, FCC, IRS, etc.)
- Partners with others in the organization as necessary to ensure all reporting needs are met timely, including outside inquiries
- Informs the Director of Human Resources and or the CFO of any known or suspected compliance violations related to WFYI policies, procedures, laws, standards, and government regulations
- Assists with responses to federal/state/local regulatory agencies and benefit providers (eg, IWD, EEOC, DOL, WC Audits), ensuring accurate, consistent and timely reporting is being provided
- Performs all other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience unless otherwise noted
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field
- Experience supporting multiple HR disciplines simultaneously.
- Experience in using HRIS software
- And/or equivalent experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position
Highly Desirable:
- One to three years of UKG Ready experience
- Talent management experience
- Experience in payroll or benefit administration, and related vendor management
- SHRM-SCP/SHRM-CP or PHR/SPHR designation

- Make recommendations to effectively solve problems, consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, and/or government law
- Manage and analyze employee data accurately
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and manipulate large data sets
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Complete work at agreed-upon deadlines including the ability to prioritize and manage tasks efficiently and effectively
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with a focus on meticulous record- keeping
- Focus on details, handle multiple tasks, and remain highly organized in a fast-paced environment
- Work at WFYI’s main office location as needed, remote work more likely the exception rather than the rule
