The Indianapolis City-County Council unanimously adopted a resolution Monday to address the historic racial inequities in Indianapolis city government.

The effort will be led by a steering committee of existing agencies to address the ways inequity impacts criminal justice, employment, education, health and wealth.

Councilor Keith Graves (D) helped introduce the resolution.

"The steering committee is tasked with developing and implementing an infrastructure to further promote racial and social equity in the city and the county, and within each department," says Graves.

Black residents in Indianapolis are far more likely to be victims of violent crime, homeless and incarcerated.

Another special resolution supports Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears' decision to not prosecute simple marijuana possession.
