IndyGo's Marion County Transit Plan -- to increase service and introduce rapid transit lines -- may take a step forward next month.

The program, providing fare-free access to IndyGo's fixed route service, has been two years in the making.

When complete, the rapid bus line will run about 13 miles from Broad Ripple on Indianapolis' north side to the University of Indianapolis on the south side.

IndyGo continues to seek public feedback on its transit upgrade through public presentations and Q&As.

IndyGo says it will use money raised through an increased income tax to expand bus routes and improve infrastructure in densely populated areas.

IndyGo Fixed Route, Open Door, Customer Service Call Center, Customer Service Center, and Administrative Offices will operate on adjusted schedules for the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

The expansion would include three rapid transit lines, extended hours and more frequent bus service.

IndyGo is also encouraging riders to plan ahead and allow extra time for their July 4 travel because special events and road closures will cause detours and delays.
