Some lawmakers say the passenger line is part of Indiana's economic future.

Senate Republicans rejected nearly 20 amendments offered by Democrats to the budget bill Monday. The Senate will vote on the budget Tuesday. The state revenue forecast will be released Wednesday.

Statehouse leaders of both parties say increasing teacher pay is a top priority. The House Republican budget gives schools an additional $461 million over the next two years, a little more than the current inflation rate in increases per year.

In the governor's proposed budget, the Amtrak-operated train would no longer receive $3 million in annual financial support after June 30, 2019.

Gov. Eric Holcomb's budget includes a 2 percent funding increase for schools, per year of the biennium. It also cuts the state's Teacher Appreciation Grants, which provide bonus money to highly rated teachers.

The difference comes from what's essentially a calculation error - the original estimate didn't consider the current fiscal year.
