The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says 13 search warrants were served this week under a partnership with federal, state and local law enforcement.

Police Chief Troy Riggs says the man was trying to remove an officer's gun from its holster when the shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon on the city's east side.

The High Intensity Drug Traffic Areas program means more federal dollars and enhanced intelligence gathering for federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies working in Indiana.

No one was reported injured in the shooting, which happened about 11 p.m. Thursday at the North District Headquarters.

Northwest District Commander Michael Jefferson says "a few dozen shots" were fired at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's district headquarters about 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The shooter couldn't legally buy a gun because he was a convicted felon. So another man bought it instead and sold it to the shooter.

Police say the shooting happened about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday after police were called about the robbery in a subdivision on the city's far east side.

Heroin and fentanyl overdoses more than doubled between 2014 and 2015 in Indianapolis, and the use of the opioid overdose antidote Narcan is on a record pace this year.

Police say the incident started on the city's northwest side when an officer stopped a vehicle after recognizing the plate as belonging to one involved in a crime earlier in the week.

During a press conference following an attack that left three Baton Rouge officers dead, Chief Troy Riggs said IMPD is investigating a threat against local law enforcement posted online.
